pisode 2 in the chain exhibition, THERYTORY: Simulated Spaces, presents an intricate triptych by Nem Askovic. Through these three distinct pieces, he meditates on the interplay between memory, territory, and digital intercession, all in a post-digital era.

Chalk Mural (Left Wall): This wall is a living memory, etched in chalk upon layers of paint that transcend decades. Evoking the nostalgic air of Tisvilde Hegn, a refuge for the artist during the pandemic, it becomes a landscape shaped by AI-mediated memories. The strokes of chalk become a symbiosis of human and artificial intellect, a visual articulation that dances between the virtual and the visceral.
Charcoal Mural (Middle Wall): A cartographic exploration, mapping an ancient game level. Here, charcoal intricately traces the pathways of both reality and virtuality, merging them into a unified plane. This wall represents territory, not just as a physical expanse but as an imaginative domain, challenging the conventional bounds between the player and the played, the creator and the created.
Wall Intervention (Right Wall): A daring collaboration with Mie Lund in the form of a silhouette-cutting. Askovic’s own silhouette confronts Lund’s, claiming the territory of the wall, playing with the body as territory, and subtly subsuming her work into his own. It’s a provocative act that challenges the conventional concept of artistic authorship, hinting at the complex dynamics of collaboration and competition within the art world.
This episode builds on the rich, collaborative nature of a chain exhibition, where each artist’s work becomes a part of a continuum, a response, a dialogue. Askovic’s works are more than mere visual presentations; they are philosophical inquiries, embodied theories, and tactile narratives.
They invite you, the observer, into a world where boundaries blur, where art challenges, provokes, and intrigues. These works are not only about looking but experiencing, not only about understanding but feeling.
